DEFIANCE Act of 2024

This bill aims to protect individuals from non-consensual digital forgeries, often termed deepfakes. This bill allows victims to bring a civil action against the perpetrators. This includes those who create, possess with intent to disclose, or distribute such digital forgeries without the victim's consent. It ensures privacy protection for plaintiffs, permitting the use of pseudonyms, redacting personal information and keeping the disputed digital forgeries under court custody during litigation.
